When a friend says they want you to meet someone, what do you do? In our case, you meet that person and the story begins...
We were not looking for love but that is what was in store for us. We came from two different backgrounds but found that we complimented each other effortlessly. Steve, a native Floridian moved to North Carolina and graduated from Fred T. Foard in 1983. I grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton-Conover High in 1985. Steve entered the workforce and I went off to college. Years passed and we each started our own families. Changes took place and we found ourselves at a crossroads in our lives that left us open to what the future held.
A mutual friend, Greg Simmons told us that we needed to meet. One night, we met for an appetizer and drink with friends. A week later, we both ended up at The Tavern to hear Greg play with Baby Black, a local R&B artist. I was decked out in khaki shorts, a sweatshirt and a Duke hat. Impressive, right!?! I rescued Steve from a slightly intoxicated woman on the dance floor for which he was very grateful. The evening ended with him still not asking for my number due to him being rather shy or should I say sly! Through Greg, he was able to get my number and called the next day and everyday since. We became inseperable.
That was in 2007 and now 5 years later we are planning our wedding. Through the years, we both have grown in our relationship. Steve's love of hotrods, Mustangs and now Harleys along with my love of eclectic music, festivals and wineries have merged to form shared interests. Steve has even ventured out to take ballroom dance lessons. The things we do for love!
We have gone through many events in our lives since our first meeting. Steve has supported me through extremely hard times with the loss of both of my parents and two of my brothers. He has been my anchor through the storm. Family and faith are of the upmost importance in our lives and we look forward to what God has in store for us in the future.
We will be forming an extended family with Steve's beautiful daughters, Jennifer and April, son-in-law Mike and my energetic boys, Harrison and Colin. We must not forget Petey, Scooter and Rex, the animal crew!
We have been blessed in finding each other and hope that you will be able to share in our upcoming wedding celebration! |
