After seeing each other for several months, we had started to talk about spending our lives together. Even Hannah Rose had tried to get Brian to propose by suggesting he buy a ring every time she was consulted on a gift idea for her mom! Brian knew Andrea was the girl for him but wanted to make sure everything was perfect before popping the question. He took Andrea shopping for rings to get idea and finally settled on a 1.7 ctw blue and white (Colts colors - a coincidence?) diamond ring from Distinctive Diamonds in Castleton.
Brian picked out and ordered the ring intending to propose when they attended the local Adult Prom in April, but the ring didn't arrive in time. Imagine his surprise when he unexpectedly ran into his ring salesperson and her fiancee that night at the prom!
When the ring finally did arrive, Brian told Andrea that he had to deal with a big train derailment at work that would prevent him from arriving for their weekend plans on time. In reality, the derailment story was a cover for the two-hour round trip to Castleton to pick up the ring.
After holding the ring for two weeks until their next special date night planned at Hal's Fabulous Las Vegas Bar & Grill, the couple's favorite restaurant, Brian planned to surprise Andrea that night at dinner, but didn't quite know exactly how. After dinner, he went to the bar to pick Andrea up a "surprise after-dinner drink." While there, he asked the bartender to "make something blue" that didn't even need to be drinkable and plunked the ring into it.
Showing Andrea the ring at the bottom of the glass, she immediately started to cry. While speaking, Brian started to cry too, but when she finally was able to mutter an "uh-huh" in response to his proposal, the whole restaurant erupted in applause.
The next morning, he surprised Hannah Rose with her own white gold and blue diamond ring as he explained his choice and his desire to be her stepfather. She gleefully accepted! |
